Literacy
Literacy is given a high priority at Newman Catholic College as it underpins all areas of the curriculum. Literacy is the development of effective skills in communication and to be literate is to be able to listen, speak, read and write at a level that is necessary to function in education, at work and in a wider society. At Newman Catholic College, we strive to ensure that all pupils receive a well-rounded learning experience that will develop a love for oracy, reading and writing and maximise the potential of every student.
Reading
We seek to instil a love of reading in all pupils. Through the use of quality core books and articles, we provide opportunities for pupils to explore their imagination, increase their vocabulary, broaden their knowledge of the world and develop a deeper understanding.
Writing
We encourage every pupil to write for pleasure and at the same time ensure they have the skills to enable them to write fluently, accurately and creatively.
Speaking and Listening
We provide opportunities in drama, debate and discussion, inspiring all pupils to be confident public speakers.
